THE INSTANT FIBRE MASH

Low starch, steam extruded beet pulp nuggets.

Formulation Highlights:

  • LOW SUGAR, LOW STARCH: Non-structural carbohydrates (NSC), such as sugars and starch, can affect both digestive health and behaviour when fed at high quantities. Excess NSC may pass through the small intestine undigested, disrupting hindgut microbial balance and contributing to sharp insulin responses and increased excitability in sensitive horses. Tru Beet™ minimises the risks with a carefully controlled NSC level to deliver slow release energy, resulting in a low sugar, low starch feed suitable for all horses including those with metabolic conditions or susceptible to gastric ulcers.
  • HIGHLY DIGESTIBLE FIBRE: Rich in pectin and fermentable fibre, Tru Beet™ promotes hindgut microbial balance and efficient nutrient absorption. The high fibre content nourishes beneficial hindgut microbes, producing essential energy and nutrients. Combined with a low NSC, Tru Beet™ supports gut balance and helps maintain a strong immune system.
  • INSTANT MASH: The steam-extruded nuggets absorb water almost immediately, forming a mash that encourages hydration and mixes easily with supplements, grain or fortified feeds. Quick soaking allows busy horse owners to prepare feeds quickly without waiting 5–20 minutes for traditional beet pulp. When soaked at a ratio of 4 parts water to one part Tru Beet™ , the nuggets expand to four times their weight.
  • UNIQUE EXTRUDED NUGGET: Tru Beet™ is an extruded beet pulp nugget for horses. Advanced steam extrusion reorganises the fibre structure, enabling it to convert to a soft mash almost instantly when water is added. Tru Beet™ completes Hygain®’s 'Tru' range of advanced extruded feeds, delivering consistent nutrition and superior feeding performance.

Feeding Tips
  1. Tru Beet™ must be soaked prior to feeding at a ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part Tru Beet™. You must weigh your Tru Beet™ ration to determine the correct ratio.  Tip: One blue Hygain dipper contains 2 litres of water or 900g of dry Tru Beet™.
  2. Introduce Tru Beet™ to your horse's diet gradually over a 7 - 14 day period.
  3. Feed by weight and not by volume.
  4. Feed a minimum of 1.5% of your horse's body weight daily as roughage.
  5. Horses have a small stomach, so feed little and often.
  6. Ensure horses have access to clean water.
  7. Adjust feed intake according to age, breed, appetite, activity level, climate and body condition.
  8. If you have any questions regarding allergens or raw ingredients, our team is here to help.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Tru Beet™ and Micrbeet®?

Tru Beet™ uses advanced steam extrusion technology to restructure the fibre in beet pulp, allowing it to soften almost instantly when water is added. In comparison, Micrbeet® is micronized beet pulp flakes that require a longer soaking time.

Why is a low NSC feed important for horses?

High levels of sugars and starch can pass undigested into the hindgut, disrupting microbial balance and potentially leading to digestive issues or increased excitability. A low NSC feed like Tru Beet™ provides slow-release energy and is suitable for horses with metabolic conditions or those prone to gastric ulcers.

How does Tru Beet™ support digestive health?

Tru Beet™ is rich in highly digestible fibre, which helps maintain a healthy hindgut environment. This supports beneficial microbes, improves nutrient absorption, and contributes to overall gut balance and immune health.

What is an “instant mash” and how does it work?

Tru Beet™ features steam-extruded nuggets that absorb water almost immediately, forming a soft mash. This makes it quick and convenient to prepare, with no need to wait 5–20 minutes like traditional beet pulp products.

How much water do I need to add to Tru Beet™?

Simply add water at a ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part Tru Beet™. The nuggets will quickly absorb the water and expand to approximately four times their original weight, creating a palatable mash.

Can Tru Beet™ be fed with other feeds or supplements?

Yes, the mash mixes easily with supplements, grains, or fortified feeds, making it a versatile addition to your horse’s diet.

Is Tru Beet™ suitable for all horses?

Tru Beet™ is suitable for a wide range of horses, including those with metabolic conditions, sensitive digestive systems, or those prone to gastric ulcers.
