Meta Safe® - Horse Pellets

Hygain

SKU:

20kg

META SAFE® is a grain free concentrate pellet containing a complete blend of nutrients at a low feeding rate. The most advanced, scientifically formulated Low GI concentrate to support horses on restricted diets or that suffer from metabolic disorders.

Formulated with less than 1.5% starch, low in sugar and the added benefit of BONAFIDE®. The addition of BONAFIDE®, bolsters the vital Vitamin K1 and K2 nutrients horses on restricted grazing lose access too, and protects bone density and strength. Vitamin K1 and K2 effect the function of osteocalcin, the bone protein that binds the mineral and protein in the bone together. Without sufficient access to Vitamin K1 and K2, low density or defective bone and cartilage can be produced.

META SAFE® is ideal for horses and ponies susceptible to obesity or that suffer from EMS, laminitis and cushings.

META SAFE® HORSE PELLETS

BONAFIDE®

BONAFIDE® bolsters the vital vitamin K1 and K2 nutrients horses on restricted grazing lose access too, and protects bone density and strength. Vitamin K1 and K2 effect the function of osteocalcin, the bone protein that binds the mineral and protein in the bone together. Without sufficient access to Vitamin K1 and K2 low density or defective bone and cartilage can be produced.

Bio-Available Selenium

Selenium acts as an antioxidant to prevent fatty acid oxidation which can cause tissue damage. Research has shown that an organic form of selenium, is more readily absorbed and retained than selenium in inorganic forms.

Prebiotic

Prebiotics incorporated in HYGAIN® META SAFE® horse pellets have a defined mode of action, promoting a healthy gut and supporting natural defences essential for optimum health and performance.

Biotin

Biotin, a water soluble vitamin is required by the enzymes responsible for protein synthesis and as a result is an essential vitamin for the healthy growth of hair and hooves. Research has shown that biotin from horse pellets improves skin and coat condition, increases hoof integrity and is widely recommended by farriers, veterinarians and scientists.

Natural Vitamin E

This unique and highly stable form of Natural Vitamin E known as RRR-a-tocopherol is up to 5 times more bio available and potent than regular synthetic sources of Vitamin E. Research has shown that this form of Natural Vitamin E provides higher retention levels in plasma further aiding antioxidant, immune, cardiovascular, circulatory, neuromuscular and reproductive functions.

Guide

HORSE PELLET FEEDING TIPS

HYGAIN® META SAFE® horse pellets are formulated as a concentrate and contain quality essential amino acids for muscle building, along with balanced levels of critical macro and micro trace minerals for sound skeletal development and prebiotics for optimum gut health and immune system defences.

HYGAIN® META SAFE® horse pellets can be fed on its own when horses do not require additional feed or used to balance home mixed diets or top up premixed feeds when not used to recommended levels

Adjust feed intake according to pregnancy and lactation status, age, breed, growth rate, body condition, work load and pasture/hay availability and quality.

If horses are obese, laminitic or suffering from developmental orthopaedic disease remove feed from the diet and feed HYGAIN® META SAFE® with chaff and or hay. Seek professional advice.

  1. Introduce HYGAIN® META SAFE® to your horse’s diet gradually over a 7-14 day period.
  2. Feed by weight and not by volume.
  3. Feed a minimum of 1.5% of your horse’s body weight daily as roughage.
  4. Horses have a small stomach, so feed little and often.
  5. Ensure horses have access to clean water.
  6. Do not add additional vitamins or minerals unless directed by a veterinarian or nutritionist.
  7. For dietary recommendations and nutritional solutions contact HYGAIN.

Frequently asked questions

Is Meta Safe® safe to feed my Cushings pony?

Yes, Meta Safe® contains very low starch levels that are ideal for horses suffering from EMS, Laminitis and Cushings. Alongside low starch/sugar roughage and feeding at the correct feeding rate of your horse/pony, Meta Safe® is a safe, fully fortified, feed option.

Will Meta Safe® cause excess weight gain on my already fat pony?
Meta Safe® is a concentrated feed meaning you can feed less and still meet all of your horse's vitamin and mineral requirements, alongside their roughage. This makes Meta Safe® perfect for the good doing horse!
If you find you have a VERY good doing horse, consider a vitamin and mineral supplement such as Allcare™ in place of a feed.
I have a poor doer, is Meta Safe® suitable for my horse?

Perhaps not. Meta Safe® is a concentrate option with a low feeding rate designed for the good doing horse. If you have a horse that is prone to laminitis or has any other metabolic conditions and is a poor doer, consider Zero® instead.

Is Meta Safe® a fully fortified feed?

Yes! Meta Safe® is a fully fortified feed (complete feed) and will meet all of your horses vitamin and mineral requirements, when fed according to the guidelines,  alongside an approriate amount of roughage.

Do I need to add a supplement alongside Meta Safe®?
We do always recommend adding salt directly into your horse's diet. This ensures the horse is meeting their sodium and chloride requirements and encourages water consumption year round!

You do not need to add a vitamin and mineral supplement as long as you are feeding according to the guidelines. Meta Safe® is a fully fortified feed.

Other supplements may be beneficial depending on your horse's individual circumstance. If you are interested in adding a supplement into your horse's diet you can book a phone consultion with one of our Nutrition Advisors or submit your horse's diet to our diet analysis platform, NUTRIKEY.
What is the difference between Meta Safe® and Zero®?

Meta Safe® is a concentrate feed where as Zero® is considered a 'full feed'. This means they have different feeding rates. A concentrate feed has a low feeding rate which is designed to meet vitamin and mineral requirements of a horse in a small quantity. This makes Meta Safe® perfect for a good doer.

What is the difference between Meta Safe® and Balanced®?
Meta Safe® and Balanced® are both concentrated options. Differences include:
Starch content: Meta Safe® contains a very low starch content of <1.5% whereas Balanced® is a low starch content at 5%.
Bonafide: Meta Safe® contains Bonafide, our Vitamin K1/K2 supplement which supports bone density and bone development -Particularly important for horses and ponies that do not have access to lush, growing pasture.
Protein content: Meta Safe® contains 12.5% protein whereas Balanced® contains 25% protein. This makes Balanced® a great option for a good doing high performance horse.
What is the difference between Meta Safe® and Allcare™?

Meta Safe® is a concentrate feed whereas Allcare™ is a supplement. This means that Allcare™ has a very small feeding rate which does not provide the same level of protein as what Meta Safe® does with a higher feeding rate. Allcare™ also contains a mycotoxin binder, probiotic and an elevated level of biotin.

His crest is nowhere near as hard as it was

"Falcon is 27 years old and has Cushing’s. I know he has been clipped in the image, but honestly look at the coat shine! I definitely think his crest is nowhere near as hard as it was, as he does get extreme cresting in his old age."

Both horses appear to have lost belly weight

‘Within a week or 2 we started to notice a change in both the horses. Starlight in particular had the most significant positive changes. Starlight and Luna both had increases in energy and were observed to gallop and canter more in the paddock. For Starlight prior to the trial she was often behind the herd, not keeping up if they were all cantering or galloping. She started to keep up with the herd and appeared to have more freedom of movement. Both horses appear to have lost belly weight. We have continued on with Meta Safe for both horses. However, it must also be noted that recently Starlight received treatment for pre-existing arthritis. However we believe she had a reduction in inflammation during the trial period and weather changes may have potentially impacted her arthritic pain.’’ Kelly Murphy - Australian Trauma and Wellness Centre

Peace of mind

"Halo is naturally a good doer and it's important that his feed doesn't add weight. Meta Safe felt like it was custom made for him! -All the goodies in a pellet that's seen him safely through the Autumn flush of grass. I love the peace of mind that he is getting what he needs to stay healthy."
